Is Paul going to be a serious contender this year? Since the start of his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career, he's been from DEI, to Yates Racing, then to Richard Petty Motorsports, finally landing himself at Richard Childress Racing.
If you would have told me last year that, Paul Menard would be having a "breakout season" this year, I would have thought that you were crazy. Although, I don't dislike him, he's not my favorite either. He's one of the guys that if my other drivers were out of the race, and he was running up front, I'd pick him.
For Paul Menard last year started off pretty good, although he was sitting in 9th after the Bristol Race, but he would quickly fall out soon after that, unfortunately for him. From then on, they would struggle for the rest of year, from slow cars, to part failures, and wrecks, and then came the whole, will they race next week or won't they? Paul was happy to finally be able to get a stable ride, however that wouldn't happen until the following year. Homestead couldn't come soon enough for him, I'm willing to bet.
So, as Homestead came, and went, as did the winter months, it seems as if Paul has transitioned nicely in with the drivers and people at Richard Childress Racing, as he's the highest RCR driver in points right now, and he's having a really good season, for the first time, in I couldn't tell you how long, he led a race on Sunday. Everyone knows that Richard Childress Racing, has put together a stellar team, who has proven that they can contend for wins, and championships.
Alot of people say "well they had 4 teams a few years ago, and that didn't work so well". You're right they did, but you know what else, they've had time to re-evalutate what they did wrong, and correct it. So if you ask me, I think Paul will have a pretty good season, based on results thus far, but then again we are only 4 races in. So who knows, we shall see. After all we are only 4 races into the season.
